£ 33, One Virgin Train, Two Welsh Ariva Trains one Irish Ferry

This has to be one of the best
deals we have been able to come up with on this trip so far.

We wanted to go from Glasgow to Dublin one-way, so started to shop around for the best deal. Earlier, I lucked-in to a really reasonable hotel on Talbot Street in heart of Old Dublin town and I was hoping to pare that deal with a good old off-season, point A to point B airfare. No such luck! The best price available was extortionate, even by airline standards. In the vicinity of $250 each (over $500 for the both of us!!)
for a 59 minute flight.
More disappointed than surprised, Lill and I went to the Glasgow Central Train Station at Argyle and Hope Steets to enquire about options by train to Hollyhead in Northern Wales and ferry to Dublin.
Couldn't believe it when the ticket agent told us it would cost £ 66 for the two of us. Am I ever glad we decided to take the less expensive method! While it took a day in transit, these are some examples of the scenery we saw on this part of the journey. Northern Wales between Chester and Hollyhead.

(you can just see Lill's reflection in the train window)
