Moving from Ottawa to Calgary

Whew, finally getting the Blog going.
It has been quite a couple of weeks for us! No trivial task moving lock/stock/barrel to Calgary. We are so grateful to Fran, Cathy, Peter, Inger, Alister, Doris and Shawn for all the help they so willingly provided getting us launched. We are in your debt!

The trip to Calgary is worthy of a blog all by itself. We loaded everything we owned into a 26 foot U-Haul trailer and drove across Canada in the second week of September 2011.

This is a view of the back of the truck before taking off to Calgary. I am not sure what the weight in the truck was, but it must have been at it's max load level. I tried to load with balancing in mind - keeping side to side weight balance and moving the really heavy objects like the cloths washer to the area over the rear axle. After getting a hang of the turning radius (ok..that took a couple of hours, a few curbs and very nervous fire hydrant to be totally honest) along with the gentle swaying of the truck in windy conditions.

Once we got on the road and tipped the hat to our home of the past 20 year, we headed out to Petawawa for to overnight with Fran and Dave.`
